By utilizing contemporary computer graphic software, digital capture and imaging devices, and a digital vocabulary of the conceptual use of technology within art, this course’s objective is to enable the student to make educated technological and conceptual decisions on how to explore and utilize the computer and digital technology within their own artistic style and aesthetic development. Students will explore this course’s context by primarily using tools such as the Macintosh computer system, digital still cameras, scanners, video camcorders, and of course…the internet. The computer will be used as a primary tool to process all images, audio, and video. Exploration of digital production methods will include input and output of both static and temporal file formats, digital capture and editing, optimization and compression, and digital presentation. Issues of practical methodology regarding media storage, content delivery, and sociological internet trends in both software and hardware usage will also be examined. This course will develop concepts and skills by addressing assigned conceptual problems. These problems (or project modules) will help the student creatively consider the interaction of media, imagery, composition, content, and digital manipulation methods.
Upon completion of this course, students should;
Understand how to apply non-digital research methods to analysing digital cultures
